One concept from the reading I found really interesting and completely agree with is nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication complement the use of language and, according to the book, is made up of deeply ingrained response patterns. This is so true, often times one is judged or graded on their nonverbal communications when giving a speech or presenting in front of a group and often times being able to use nonverbal communications, such as body or facial gestures, tone of voice, turn taking, hairstyle, dress, etc, will definitely benefit not only and individual but also a group. If individuals within a group are able to positively use nonverbal communication when interacting with one another then the group would run much smoother and be able to communicate better or rather understand one another better. If the group is able to use nonverbal communications to be able to understand one another in this manner then they may be able to come to a decision or plan much more efficiently and quicker.
I agree with you that nonverbal communication is an important part of communication because it helps us communicate in general and it also supports verbal communication. Body language can say it all for many people, and this can be a negative or positive aspect of communication. I have watched people give lectures and speeches where their nonverbal communication skills were lacking, and it really affected their use of language. It is often hard to understand someone who doesn't show expression in their face or change the tone of their voice to emphasize or get their point across. Nonverbal communication can really bring communication to life in many ways. Verbal communication is obviously an important way that we communicate, but without nonverbal communication we would likely be confused by many of our interactions with others.
ReplyDeleteHey Bing-a-ling. I thought you did a really good job on your post this week. You did a really good job discussing nonverbal communication. I think that nonverbal communication is very important because people are communicating nonverbally all the time. They are doing it even when they don't think they are or they don't realize it. I know that I am a big nonverbal communicator myself. My facial expressions say a lot about the way that I am feeling on any given day. I consider myself a huge people watcher and I am constantly nonverbally communicating with the people I watch.
